Established in 1959, Government Medical College, Srinagar is the biggest medical college in the region with MBBS, MD/MS and super-specialty course running successfully. It has eight associated hospitals spread within few kilometers from the colleges providing specialized and super-specialized patient care to whole population of Kashmir division and referral services from Jammu and Ladakh regions, in addition to medical education and research The total bed capacity of GMC associated hospitals is around 3,000 teaching beds. It also runs college of nursing and para-medical sciences.
